DUSTY'S STORY
Dusty is a Tennessee Walker who has lived an amazing life with his former owner. He has covered more than 10,000 trail miles, learned many tricks over the years, and is equipped with one of the most precious personalities you will ever meet. When he greets you, it is likely he will offer a bent knee to shake hello or answer yes/no questions. He will happily offer sloppy kisses and smiles for cookies, and he most assuredly gives the best hugs there are. Sadly, Dusty had a catastrophic pasture accident last year that has left him permanently disabled with Sweeney Shoulder. The nerve in his shoulder that aids in pulling the leg forward at the walk was severely damaged. He now walks with his right leg resembling a peg leg and he has suffered significant muscle atrophy. It does not seem to bother him at all, and he has adapted incredibly well. He can still canter around even though he looks a bit different than he used to.
After several conversations over a period of weeks, Dusty's owner made the decision to release Dusty to us as a permanent sanctuary horse where he would live out his days in our peaceful pastures. This was an unimaginable decision for his owner, and we are honored she trusts us with her heart horse. As we continue to expand our programming at the rescue, we believe Dusty will make an excellent therapy horse as he has a lot left to give this world and a powerful desire to share his equine magic with those in need.
